Our Four-part Mission

Greek Alumni believe we are at a fork in the road for Bloomsburg Greeks.

On one side is GREAT OPPORTUNITY!

When have Greeks ever had a real ADVOCATE at Bloomsburg? I would contend that the focus of the Greek Life office and University Staff has always been CONTAINMENT. There has never been a time when the 800± ARMY of Greek Students has been used PROACTIVELY as an ASSET of the University and the Bloomsburg Community.

Greek Alumni envision the next 50 years of Greek life being led by knowledgeable and motivated Alumni helping to direct a PAID Intern (who is presently greek at Bloomsburg) to advocate for ALL GREEKS in a way never before seen on this campus. Using our four parts of our mission statement to organize and communicate the great qualities of Greeks and put their many facets in front of the university and the general public in the best possible light.

We would like the opportunity to show the other sides of greek life, and make the next 50 years the best ever at Bloomsburg…and beyond.

…On the other side is Continued “Containment”.

As Commonwealth proceeds with integration, they need to find a single answer for what Greek Life looks like for all three campuses. As has been their behavior to date, that conversation seems to be continued focus on “containment”.

The have begrudgingly realized that Greeks and Greek life are a big reason why kids choose Bloomsburg, but they still don’t seem able to grasp how they could become PROACTIVE and CAPITALIZE on the resource. this is why, if Greek Life is to continue and thrive at Bloomsburg (and frankly any of the campuses) a complete change of focus needs to happen. that will ONLY happen via Alumni and an independent Alumni Association oversight organization.

The present “idea” being discussed is BANNING all existing Greek organizations and ONLY allowing national organizations not presently at Bloomsburg to colonize. Is this forward thinking?
